Transition Together, the story so far… 

Just over a year ago, we launched Transition Together, a project to grow and strengthen the Transition movement in England and Wales, building on Transition Bounce Forward and made possible by funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. As the year turns, we’ve been reflect on our role, what we’ve been doing, what we’ve learned and on what we’ll be focusing in 2023. We’d welcome your thoughts and feedback too!

What’s on in 2023…

We’re hard at work on plans for hosting events, workshops and important conversations to support your local work for Transition in 2023. Here’s what’s already confirmed, and we’ll have more to share soon:

• Just a few spaces left for Launch training for new Transition groups on 21 January. A one-day workshop with practical tools to start strong. Book here

• Thrive training kicks off on 13 February, designed to support existing Transition groups to grow, strengthen and, well, thrive! More info here.

• Are you interested in co-hosting an in-person regional Transition gathering in May/June? A fantastic chance to show local projects and connect with the wider movement. Express interest by 31 January.

• Finally, if you’ve used Vive, our online space for Transitioners, join us on 1 Feburary to explore how we can shape it to best meet your needs and support your work. More here.

Tools for Transition: Community Imagination

Helping your community see a different, better future can be a vital step in working out what actions and projects will help make change.  Transition co-founder Rob Hopkins has been finding out how to set up and run creative spaces to unlock collective imagination. He discovered that whether they are mobile projects on wheels, pop-ups at festivals or take over vacant high street shops, using creative methods and open ‘What If?’ questions can invite people into richer, deeper and bigger conversations than traditional consultation or surveys. Food Futures

North Lancashire’s sustainable food network is recruiting for three paid posts. They are looking for a freelance fundraiser, a Network Building and facilitator and a REconomy Coordinator on their Closing Loops project. Apply by 27 January. Find out more

Zero Guildford

As part of their new Leaky Homes project, to offer advice and support to local residents to make their homes more energy efficient, they are looking for several champions to assess homes, and a coordinator. Zero has also worked with University of Surrey to set up a new sustainable business network, which is now looking for a project officer. More here

Cumbria Action for Sustainability 

Three more opportunities here: for an administrator, finance and resource manager and contractors to install home energy measures. More

New Food for the Planet grants to support communities to take local action or run campaigns to make food in their area better for people and planet. Apply for up to £5K by 10 Feburary here.

National Open Garden Scheme

Community garden grants up to £5K for projects that bring the community together, share skills and increase access for a wider range of people. Apply by 31 January here.

Community Action Fund

Civic Power is offering grants of £2.5K- £20K to grassroots organisations building the power of their community and campaigning for long-term change. Apply by 26 February.  More

Tree Council

Grants for trees, hedges and  orchards: extended deadline to 15 January. Orchards for schools funding reopens this month. More
